What Is animal testing?

Many makeup brands are known to test their products on animals first to make sure that they are safe for human use. The animals that are most frequently tested on include: rabbits, rats, mice and guinea pigs. This sort of testing can have minor or severe consequences on the animal. Such harsh consequences include skin irritation, eye irritation or in worst cases death.

In most cases after animal testing, if the animals haven’t yet died, the animals are killed without any sort of pain relief. The Humane Society International estimates that about 100,000-200,000 animals are harmed or die every year due to cosmetic testing.

Why do brands do it?

This practice is still approved today, even though it is not required by law to test on animals (It is only required by law in China). It is entirely up to the makeup and skincare brand to test on animals. Usually, brands test on animals when they are trying to use a new ingredient that has never been used in cosmetics before.

What is the alternative?

Instead of animal testing, the companies could use the hundreds of ingredients that are already deemed safe for cosmetics. Decades of research have proven that there are more than enough ingredients that are safe on the human skin, therefore there is no need to seek out new ones.

Why is cruelty-free important?

Cruelty free makeup is important for many reasons. When you buy from a cruelty free brand, you are supporting a business that refuses to test harmful ingredients on animals that can lead to harm or death.

By solely buying cruelty free products, you as a consumer are increasing the demand for products that are cruelty free. By increasing the market for vegan and cruelty free cosmetics, you are increasing the likelihood of more brands transitioning to a cruelty free plan.

Nude Beauty believes that every animal matters, no matter how big or how small. We stand by our promise to provide the best cruelty free and vegan products for our clients.
